好快，年假、元宵過後，一眨眼就來到了三月天！日復一

日的簡單生活卻因為一本本的日曆而增添不少生活情趣。

在＂看幽默漫畫學英文（一）：Snoopy＂曾介紹史努比

漫畫的童趣幽默，其中，Lucy 對 Schroeder 這個兒童音樂

家情有獨衷的橋段最可愛。看看他們在 2013 年日歷上的

趣味對話。

Lucy: What do you think the odds are that you and I will get married someday? 

Schroeder: Oh! I’d say about "googol" to one. 

Lucy: How much is a "googol" ?

我問孩子 a "googol" 是多少?  兒子說 a "googol" 是 1 後面加上

100 個 0。真是天文數字，等於是 10 的 100 次方，所以

"googol" to one表示機率微乎其微，難怪，Lucy 要嘆氣

"Sigh"。

好棒的一句英文描寫，"What do you think the odds are

that …… ?”你認為事情發生的機率/可能性有多少？

好棒的一句英文片語，"…about ‘googol’ to one"，機率

微乎其微。如果只用 impossible 一個單字來描寫事件發生的

可能性不高，語氣變得單調又乏味。然而，利用一個生動

的片語，不但使說話的內涵有思想，而且延伸想像力。這

才是我要孩子學習模仿的英文內容。繼續看 Lucy 與

I’m not going to talk to you any more about marriage.

My Aunt Marian married a trumpet player, and she says

one musician in the family is enough! 

Schroeder: Hurray for Aunt Marian!

stop worrying、 not…any more 、 talk to …about…、

Hurray for …，一連串孩子該學的用詞，巧妙生動地

結合成一段詼諧短劇，孩子的英文學習才能紮實又長

遠。感謝作者查爾斯·舒茲 (Charles M. Schulz) 所創作

的漫畫 -- Peanuts，這系列以史努比小狗和一群可愛孩

童為主角的美國漫畫，童趣幽默，總是令人回味無窮
