今年夏天孩子最愛不釋手的英文童書除了 “Q Is for Quark”

還有由美國國家地理雜誌兒童部門所發行 (National Geographic Kids)。的

“Weird But True : 300 Outrageous Facts  ”

全系列一共有三集，每一集收羅300則令人嘖嘖稱奇的自然現象與事實。

 “Weird But True 3: 300 Outrageous Facts  ”

例如:夜裡會發光的蘑菇

There are mushrooms that glow in the dark.

例如:南極是沙漠 (沙漠可不是熱帶地區的專利喔!)

例如: 哈巴狗（Pug）與米格魯（Beagle）的親戚關係

Pug + Beagle= Puggle

兒子望著圖仔細找尋牠們彼此間的相似度與遺傳關係

目不暇給的趣味事蹟裡，與孩子息息相關的最得他們青睞。

例如:怕鬼

 Phasmophobia is the fear of ghosts.

例如:怕上學

Didaskaleinophobia is the fear of going to school.

原來上學這件事是會令人心生畏懼的，只是我很好奇，這是先天，還是後天不愉快經驗造成的呢。

例如:怕蔬菜 (難道是肉食主義者的藉口)

Lachanophobia is the fear of vegetables.                                     

 人類會發生恐懼的問題，這是很正常的。例如:怕暗、怕高、怕怪物，或是怕某些小動物（蜘蛛、蛇、蜥蜴等等）。只是有些人的恐懼感和特定的情況或對象有關，真是令人不可思議。

例如:怕花生醬黏在嘴巴

Arachibutyrophobia is the fear of getting peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth..      

例如:怕色彩

Chromophobia is the extreme fear of colors.  

例如:怕一長串的單字(這恐怕是史上最長的單字)

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words.

(好不容易打完這個字我似乎開始有Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia的症狀了)

phobia 這個字根是用來描寫對某個特定對象、事件的恐懼。
